SANTAQUIN, UT – A man’s life was claimed in a hit-and-run collision on Chimney Rock Pass Road near Santaquin after 5 p.m. Friday.
According to KUTV, an SUV driver was traveling at a high rate. This driver swerved off the road to avoid contact with another truck on the road. However, while dodging, the driver ran over the driver of the truck, who was outside of his vehicle. As a result, the truck driver, a 59-year-old man, was thrown approximately 40 feet and succumbed to fatal injuries.
The SUV driver fled the scene and later notified authorities that he was eight miles near the collision site, from where the victim died.
The suspect was booked into custody, as the Utah County Sheriff’s Office released that the front-end damage to the SUV correlated to “witness statements of the crash.” At this time, deputies speculate the suspect was impaired.
The truck driver’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Details are preliminary, and updates will be posted as they become available.
