LEHI, UT – A Highland man is facing multiple criminal charges in connection to a six-car crash last September that left several people seriously injured.
According to a report by KSL, William Allen Andrew Koontz, 34, was driving on the Timpanogos Highway and approaching the intersection of North Center Street in Lehi at a high rate of speed on September 24th.
Police say Kootz failed to slow down in time for traffic and slammed into the rear of one vehicle, causing a chain-reaction involving five additional vehicles.
Three occupants of the first vehicle hit by Kootz were hospitalized with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries. Two people in the next vehicle suffered concussions and other injuries, while the remaining two vehicles reported minimal damages and minor injuries.
Kootz was taken into custody and has since been charged with seven counts of negligently operating a vehicle resulting in injury, DUI, two counts of drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a vehicle without an interlock system, driving on a suspended license, and following too close.
