The collision took place in the afternoon near Diamond Fork, when for reasons unclear, a driver of a westbound vehicle collided with a motorist waiting to turn left and an eastbound automobile.

Officials said the vehicles involved were a gray Chevy Cruz, a white Toyota Venza, and a silver Hyundai Elantra.

One person in the eastbound vehicle was sent to the hospital in critical condition. Two men in their 20s and 30s from the westbound vehicle were killed at the scene.

The eastbound directions were shut down. However, all travel lanes have reopened since.
